A nervous blogger’s first post
Hello World!
This is my first blog post on Medium, and I looked at this blank page for a bit wondering what to write. Should I write something funny or serious? Will readers form an entire opinion of me based on one post? Will there even be any readers?
I’ve read countless posts about what to write and what not to write. I’ve seen question and answer posts, humorous posts, puzzling posts, and posts that have made me really think. I’ve seen posts about politics, sex, holidays, drinking, and advice on pretty much anything and everything. I’ve attended Tom Kuegler’s webinar, bookmarked articles by Medium Staff, and got encouragement from Mark Starlin. Mark stands out for me because he’s the first blogger I followed on Medium.
I think the best advice I’ve seen so far is to just get started. So, I think I’ll follow that one and try not to break too many other rules along the way.
Another piece of advice that I see frequently can be boiled down to “be useful”.
So, for others struggling to write and post your first one, here are some things I’ve learned.
Focus somewhere. My problem was that I started with three topics and tried to write them all at the same time. The noise was deafening. During my “writing time”, I tried to advance all three…
