Even if it isn’t.

Today was an emotional day for me. It’s still not an official school day (still on Spring Break), but that only means that we haven’t had to count it as a school day. The amount of contact that I’ve had with administrators, other teachers, and students today means that I have been working, just like most of my colleagues and my students.

We are all working together to try to figure out how to do this before adding the pressure of an “official school day” hits us next week. I thought when I checked my email this morning that I had it all under control. I have my assignments posted, my video conference details set, student email messages have been sent out with all the details, and according to my checklist I am ready. Then I got her message.

“I tried the assignment and I couldn’t do the last one. Could you explain it over email?”

She is not my absolute best student, but she was obviously trying. In class, she’s often looking for attention, which I usually give her. She’s better at school work than she lets on, but never wants to seem like she’s good at it in front of other kids. If you’re a teacher, you know the type of kid I’m talking about.
