It’s not all teachers, and it’s not all the time, but it happens enough to be disturbing. I rarely give extra credit in my classes. (until this quarter when I was forced to give extra credit for every assignment, but that’s a different rant).
It’s not always an easy conversation to have with a parent to tell them that their student is failing or that he or she might be better off at a community college or joining the work force, (despite the fact that there should be absolutely no shame in either of those things). But, if we are not willing to have that hard conversation, then it will never get any easier.
