I know a little bit about how middle-school conflicts work, so here’s how some of the recent headlines might play out in a classroom. Oh, if these weren’t actually way too close to reality.

TEACHER: Well class, let’s have a big welcome for Kamala. We had to shift some schedules around at the school, so she’ll be joining our class this semester instead of being down the hall in Mr. S’s class during second period.

DONALD: You can’t do that! It’s the middle of the year! First she was in that class, and now she’s here. How do we even know who she is? Is she even in sixth grade? First she’s one thing and then she’s something else. Everybody says that’s not right!

TEACHER: <Doing his best to ignore the commotion.> Why don’t you just sit here honey? Mr. S’s class is a little ahead of ours so you should be fine with today’s lesson.

DONALD: Oh no! She can’t sit there! That’s Joe’s seat!

TEACHER: It will be okay Donnie, Joe went over to Mr. S’s class, so that seat is free.

DONALD: Grumbles. <But I used to throw spitballs at Joe from here! This new girl looks like she might not like that. And why is she laughing at me?>
