More 80’s Movies Rebooted
Get ready for a montage
Several 80’s franchises are being rebooted for the new millennium. Bill and Ted tell us that we still need to be excellent to each other while Cobra Kai brings Johnny back to ass-kicking forefront. Maverick is flying again and Michael Myers is back for another Halloween movie.
And why not? 80’s movies were full of wonder and hope and everything could be solved with a montage. Nerds and science often won out over brute force and crassness, pretty girls figured out that they deserved respect, and Ferris Beuller took a day off in a Ferrari. Hell yes! We need some of that today.
Now, Sony, Netflix, and others are realizing that the hope and fun that was the 80’s can be brought into today’s world with the same messages updated for a new generation. Also, everybody loves 80’s music with bands that played actual instruments and the guitarist had a name that was worth remembering.
It’s so much more than a sequel. It’s a sequel 40 years in the making, with the same actors, similar themes, and heavy nods to the original. I’m calling it a Quatrel.
Here are some ideas in case any high-level movie executives are reading.
