REFLECTION
Mural of a Year
A Wordle-inspired reflection
2023, a year of starts and stops. A year of good and bad. A year of work, pain, love, loss, and understanding. A year of deep sorrow for things I cannot control, and of hopeful, tiring work to adjust things I can.
The MURAL of 2023 would start with joyous colors, happiness despite a world full of misunderstood hatred. Pinpricks of dancing, rainbow hues bring my own personal happiness out on a background of hopeful uncertainty.
As the year matures into spring enjoyment and the inevitable quickening of pace around end of school and beginning of summer activities, the colors swirl and the brushstrokes sway and dance. A curlicue of action builds its exciting, contrasting brights and darks and doesn’t stop long enough for introspection. Travel, experience, and hugs from distant family build a cushy yet solid foundation of good times and newness upon which will be built new waves of color and interesting shapes of understanding.
I begin again a Wordle journey to help keep sanity in a stable spot near the focus of my personal MURAL while aspects of the world either unravel or tightly wind depending on the day. New schools, new beginnings, and new adventures build around this focus as we lead into the waning months.
