Today’s Wordle answer invokes honor, truthfulness, bravery and virtue. Leaders of the past were identified as nobles because they were expected to be the prime examples of these virtues. Of course, behind the scenes, their more human qualities were explored, but it promoted the idea of leading by good example.

There are, of course, problems with nobility, royalty, monarchy, etc. but the idea of leaders with a higher standard has merit. Teachers should set good examples for their classes by speaking honestly and kindly. Managers, directors, and C-level executives in industry should show high-level hard work and determination. And parents should lead their impressionable children by showing them how to be kind, generous, thoughtful, helpful, and a host of other good qualities.

Nobility doesn’t have to be reserved for the nobles.

For some reason, government officials are headed in the other direction. We promote those who scream, name-call, and generally behave badly in public. We continue to elect the people who refuse to work together, openly call for dismantling progress, and publicly promote outright hate for other people. It’s as if we think our government should be made up of the people who can beat up the others the best, and our centuries-old hallowed places should be turned into wrestling rings.

There is a time and a place for fighting, screaming, and generally not acting noble. Mosh pits, kindergarten classrooms, and professional wrestling rings come to mind. There should also be places for acting noble, working together, and embracing the fact that we are all people on the same planet. Our places of leadership should be those places.

They are not. And that’s a problem.

Unfortunately, I don’t have answers except voting for those who act with nobility and encouraging others to do so. The only answers I have are the ones from recent Wordles. Today, that is NOBLE.
