The Recipe

  • 1/2 oz. Italian Vermouth
  • 1 1/2 oz. Rye Whiskey
  • 1 Dash Angostura Bitters
  • Maraschino or Whiskey-soaked cherry

Add all three liquid ingredients into a shaker with plenty of ice. Stir until the liquid is cold, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with one cherry.

A Manhattan is sophisticated without seeming snooty. It is sharply smooth, gently strong, and will gladly usher you into a sense of something grander and wait like a faithful friend while you decide to be there.
