Talk About Blue!

Sometimes we need to see past our first impression

Today’s Wordle brings my mind to a particular scene in Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove. This may not be the most critically acclaimed of Disney’s movies, but there is a scene and a line in there that either most people miss, or I am reading too much into.

In the movie, the character Kronk is portrayed as a stereotypical dumb, meathead henchman. By the way, by Patrick Warburton is awesome as Kronk. Kronk is ordered to poison the emperor Kuzco (David Spade) by his advisor Yzma (Eartha Kitt) who, according to the usual tropes, wants his job.

Kronk dutifully makes the poison and then, at some point during the scene, realizes that the emperor will be dead before desert. In what I view as an act of humanity, when providing a conversation starter, Kronk does not talk about the future which Kuzco doesn’t have.

Instead his line is, “Did you see that sky today? Talk about Blue!

Easy, innocuous, relatable to the entire world. The AZURE sky of the Peruvian Highlands is the topic of conversation and not the impending death of its emperor or anything that would cause the viewer any more emotional distress. Kronk is easily the most likeable, and “human” character in this scene. He is no longer just…
